Large fracturing vessels are the core equipment for efficient development of low-permeability and low fluidity subsea oil and gas fields. The captain of “Ocean Oil 696” is 99.8 meters long, with a deck area equivalent to 3.5 standard basketball courts, and the ship size ranks first among similar ships in the world.

The ship is equipped with a complete set of fracturing equipment, which can perform large-scale offshore fracturing operations with high displacement and high power, and the overall performance has reached the world’s leading level.
Xu Jie, General Manager of the Engineering Technology Operation Center of China National Offshore Oil Corporation Tianjin Company, said, “Fracturing ships have strong continuous operation capabilities and material reserve capabilities. They can pump 12 cubic meters of mortar per minute, which is equivalent to filling a household bathtub in two seconds, making previously difficult to access oil and gas resources a ‘new battlefield’ for efficient development
Fracturing technology is the process of injecting fracturing fluid into the formation through a high-pressure pump system to open up fractures, like a “highway” for transporting oil and gas, greatly improving the efficiency of extracting difficult to use resources.
China has abundant reserves of low-permeability oil and gas resources at sea, but due to the special operating environment at sea, it has been difficult to achieve profitable development through large-scale fracturing for a long time.
In response to this pain point, the design team pioneered a “stacked” three-dimensional layout, integrating the entire set of fracturing equipment precisely on four decks, achieving the optimal configuration of “small space, large capacity” within a limited vessel.

At the same time, the ship is the first of its kind in the world to adopt a fully electric drive system, greatly improving power output efficiency and meeting the continuous operation needs under different sea conditions, with a range of over 10000 nautical miles.
After the delivery of “Offshore Oil 696”, it will go to the Bohai Sea and other sea areas in China to carry out offshore oil and gas fracturing and production operations, providing solid equipment support for breaking the bottleneck of difficult to extract resources at sea and promoting the high-quality development of the offshore oil and gas industry.
